The short answer is YES.  We think so, and after a review of the information below, we think you will agree.

During Juvent's pioneering efforts, Drs. McCleod and Rubin did much of the early work in LMMS (Low Magnitude Mechanical Stimulation) research and animal studies. While we applaud their contributions in this field, Dr. Rubin is not a listed inventor on Juvent’s current platform, nor is he listed on the many patents.  Science is only the first step of the journey to the clinical product.

This revolutionary design was invented and patented by Titi Trandifir, Ph.D., Roger Talish, EE, and Donald Krompasick, are three very talented engineers. Dr. Trandifir consults with Juvent and has overseen our design and production. Roger Talish commented that the current Juvent is the best unit he had ever seen. The Wright Brothers’ flight at Kittyhawk proved an important concept, but it was only a beginning.  Juvent had a similar moment with its first ‘springs’ design.  It was simplistic; used only springs and was a fixed frequency design.  Although demonstrated a concept, it had major drawbacks that sent the engineers back to the drawing board to make it work for everyone…safely. Using only springs around the edges, is a simplistic design that is cheap and easy to make but has two major short comings.

Drawback one: Stability

It uses a center actuator design forcing the user to stand balanced in the center of the platform to assure they receive the correct signal.  Many users have balance issues, making an unsafe scenario certain.

Drawback two: Precise control - using resonance to achieve efficient delivery.

This is a central tenant in the effectiveness of LMMS using Juvent’s Micro-Impact. Without approximating a user's resonant frequency, the small amount of energy (0.3-0.4g) is not assured to generate the clinical results seen in all Juvent’s later studies. (e.g. St. Jude’s Clinical Trial)

Juvent engineers realized the efficacy of using safely chosen resonant frequencies that are found in nature.  This varies by person, and even over time, based on weight, body changes, etc.  For being able to match this by person each session, one of our Ph.D. was awarded several patents for just this achievement; for it’s not simple, nor easy to do.  Using the same frequency for all people is archaic.  A one-size-fits-all rarely gives the best clinical results, and this is no exception.

Most don’t understand the difference, including the early researchers.

From time to time, we see internet posts from people, and yes even some clinicians, who do not understand the important differences between these two technologies.   They say they are the same or that the LIV is a “newer” design, when in fact it is the older, abandoned Juvent design, likely chosen because it did not violate Juvent’s very broad patents. However, it’s simply a new name, (it used to be called LivMD), so maybe that is what they mean by "new" technology.  Wilbur and Orville Wright would hardly recognize today's airplanes, but would they choose a modern, proven aircraft over the version of even theirs built today.  Engineers have made the difference, but we applaud them, for their contributions all the same.

We also have heard that LIV feels “stronger”.  Sure, if you take off Juvent’s flexible plate cover and stand on the metal surface like a LIV. We do not recommend it as it would be slippery, cold, and uncomfortable, Juvent will also feel much stronger.

We also hear that LIV is using a 30 Hz signal that is somehow the “magical” frequency to grow bone.  Silly.  Juvent could easily start at 30Hz or fix our frequency at 30Hz, but we choose not to for several reasons.


In summary.

  3. It is your best and safest option.
  4. No fixed frequency.   
  5. You will be able to get service and parts.

Juvent has very strong patents and its device AND software are unique in the industry.  The fact that so many are trying to copy it proves its value and uniqueness.  We frequently test and follow up on claims made by competitors or reps selling cheap knock-offs.  They are not the same, not even close. 

It is sad that so many are being misled because their health is at stake.   • The idea that 30 Hz is somehow the only or best frequency for bone growth is not based on science.  The primary mechanism that all vibration devices use is mechanotransduction.  Many cells and certainly osteocytes have mechano-sensitive ion channels that are only activated by a mechanical pressure wave passing over them. Many frequencies can create a pressure wave and in the case of bone more powerful energy levels may actually do a better job of stimulating the bone.  But the higher energies(1G+) and frequencies (90Hz+) can cause injury to soft tissue which would make them clinically unfeasible.  Juvent’s frequencies (32-37Hz) and energy levels (less than 1G) are certainly safe and have been proven in clinical trials to be effective.
  • A fixed frequency will be work for some, some of the time, and not for others.  Your body’s density changes frequently throughout the day as will the efficiency of a fixed frequency.
